Steps for Program Consideration
(You are only considered for the CDL program after steps 1-4 have been completed):
- Personal information form filled out and returned to Admin @ CTEC, 1301 E 27th Terrace, Pittsburg KS 66762.
- Apply online to FSCC by going to the FSCC website, clicking on the Apply Now button and completing the online application.
- DOT Physical and Drug test done and faxed to us from the provider. Read the attached Medical and Legal Qualifications and make sure you can pass the Department of Transportation (DOT) Physical requirements and DOT Drug Screen requirements. You must pass both the physical and drug screen to be enrolled in the program.
There are 2 options for your DOT Physical and Drug Screen
Option 1: If you have a valid copy of physical and drug screen, or want to get it on your own, a copy MUST be sent from your provider to FSCC by mail FSCC CTEC 1301 E 27th Terrace in Pittsburg KS 66762 or fax 620-232-5825.
Option2: FSCC will provide a Medical Authorization form and you can take that to Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas, Community Health Center will provide those records to FSCC CTEC. - Pay the non-refundable registration fee ($150) Checks can be mailed or cash or check can be dropped of at FSCC CTEC, 1301 E 27th Terrace in Pittsburg KS 66762 Once you have completed the above steps, we will enroll you in the next available class. The cost for the program is $4250 and the registration fee will be deducted.
- Complete the Truckers Against Trafficking Certificate and provide a copy of your certificate to FSCC. To complete the certificate go to https://education.truckersagainsttrafficking. and click on register, take the course and print or save the certificate. Be sure to save your username and password so you can access your certificate.
- Study the Kansas Commercial Driver’s License Manual it can be accessed online at https://www.ksrevenue.gov/pdf/cdlhandbook.pdf or you can purchase a copy at your local Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). A Commercial Permit is valid for 6 months. You can take the CLP test at your local DMV, just be sure the CLP does not expire during your class. If you obtain your CLP prior to the 1st day of class you will receive a $395 credit.
The CDL Program does not qualify for Federal Financial Assistance (Pell grants or student loans). There are two ways to receive assistance:
Workforce AID – if your employer agrees to pay for the cost of the program, the Workforce AID program allows the employer to pay for half of the cost and the Department of Commerce will pay half.
KansasWorks – if you qualify for aid from KansasWorks they can provide tuition assistance. Please contact them prior to your start date. To contact your local office, go to www.sekworks.org on the top right go to “Contact” and select your local office.
Vocational Rehabilitation may also provide funding.
