Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)

Overview

The Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) program has a long and strong history at Fort Scott Community College.  The program restarted after the pandemic in February of 2021.  It has been reorganized, retooled and is now in gear and driving forward.

As part of the reorganization, the course now falls into Business and Industry Training.  It is currently a 6-week course with two CDL Trainers.  New Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) Theory requirements include, an introduction to the pre-trip, and backing maneuvers on the Basic Control Skills (BCS) Course.  After the ELDT portion has been completed, students are either on the practice course or on the behind the wheel learning the skills for their new career.
