Ahoy! Gilligan’s Island the Musical
FSCC theater stage becomes “Gilligan’s Island”
Fifty-four years after the tiny “S.S. Minnow” first set sail from its tropic port, the ship comes aground on the stage at Fort Scott Community College as the FSCC theater department presents “Gilligan’s Island: The Musical” at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 19-20 and 2 p.m. Oct. 21.
The show, which debuted in 2011, is based on the classic 1960s TV comedy series “Gilligan’s Island,” created by Sherwood Schwartz, with music and lyrics by Hope and Laurence Juber and book by Sherwood and Lloyd J. Schwartz.
Directed locally by Allen Twitchell with musical direction by Seth Ernst, “Gilligan’s Island: The Musical” retells the story in song of the “seven stranded castaways,” who encounter an “alien” during their many failed attempts to get off the island and back to Hawaii.
The cast includes Aiden Ballinger, a freshman from Pleasanton, as Gilligan; Jared Oshel, former FSCC student from Richmond, as the Skipper; FSCC instructor Harold Hicks as the millionaire Thurston Howell; FSCC staff member Karri Johnson as Mrs. Howell; Fayelyn Kmiec, a freshman from Farlington, as movie star Ginger; Jasper Dunn, a sophomore from Whitehall, Wis., as the Professor; Katie Button, a freshman from Fort Scott, as Mary Ann; and Marcus Robinson, a freshman from Paola, as the Alien.
The stage manager is Katelynn Coe, with assistance from Samantha Stone. The technical crew also includes Mickey Donahue, Ka’Si Gates and Michael Woodward.
All tickets for the show are $5 each with children under age 12 admitted free of charge. The show is also free to all FSCC students, faculty and staff.
