“A Very Hairy Christmas”
BIGFOOT LEARNS ABOUT CHRISTMAS IN FSCC CHILDREN’S PLAY
Bigfoot is back bigger than life at Fort Scott Community College during the theater department’s presentation of “A Very Hairy Christmas,” an original children’s play by Allen Twitchell, theater instructor.
Admission is free to the 25-minute play at 7 p.m. Thursday (Dec. 2) with treats – courtesy of Walmart of Fort Scott – for all attending children following the show.
Masks are required.
“In true ‘Star Wars’ fashion, this play is actually a prequel to 2019’s ‘Santa Claws is Coming to Town’ and 2018’s ‘All I Want for Christmas is Bigfoot’s Teeth,” Twitchell said. “This time around, Bigfoot is discovered by a group of children and seeks their help to learn about Christmas. Of course, there is a bad guy, Darth Hunter; a chase scene; a couple of slow-witted henchwomen; and a few holiday songs.”
The cast features: Hyden Wirsig, freshman from Drexel, Mo., as Bigfoot; Shawn Huffman, freshman from Fort Scott, as Ben; Dray Dickey, freshman from Bronaugh, Mo., as Jordan; Sonny Webb, freshman from Tampa, Fla., as Grace; Evan Ballinger, freshman from Pleasanton, as Darth Hunter; Colleen Sweat, sophomore from Pleasanton, as Dim; Abby Sweat, sophomore from Pleasanton, as Dimmer; Robenton Wirsig, freshman from Drexel, Mo., as Ace Reporter; Kiera Threlfall, sophomore from Frontenac, as Reporter No. 2; Mackenzie Peoples, sophomore from Fort Scott, as Reporter No. 3; and Paityn Curtis, freshman from LaCygne, as Reporter No. 4.
Dr. Denissa Rivas, music instructor for FSCC, served as musical director. Ben Souza and Kye Weekley of the FSCC IT department and Zach Loper, freshman from Girard, supplied the sound.
“Certainly, the times are challenging, and staying safe is the priority, but we want to keep our theater department as active as possible,” said Twitchell. “Also, this show allows us to maintain our tradition of giving the gift of theater to the community for Christmas.”
