Fort Scott, KS. – In celebration of Manufacturing Day 2015 (October 2), the City of Fort Scott, the Fort Scott Chamber of Commerce, the Fort Scott Visioning Committee and Fort Scott Community College will host events to draw attention to the outstanding opportunities that a career in manufacturing can provide. Extrusions, Inc., Labconco, NIECE Products; The Carlisle Belts, LLC; City of Fort Scott Water Treatment Plant and Ward/Kraft, Inc.; FSCC’s East Campus and others will open their doors to the community by offering on-site tours of their respective facilities

“There is an increasing demand in the manufacturing sector for highly skilled professionals who can design, program and operate technology,” said Robert Goltra, Dean of Students at Fort Scott Community College.

Goltra adds, “The average age of a manufacturing employee is high at the national level, and between now and 2020 there will be an unprecedented shortage of skilled workers.”

All of October 2’s programs are designed to improve public understanding of career opportunities in manufacturing and to generally expand knowledge of manufacturing. In addition to the tours available around town, FSCC’s East Campus (the old Armory Building) will host displays and demonstrations for construction trades, Harley-Davidson, HVAC, John Deere, STEM Club and welding programs.

Manufacturing Day is an annual national event supported by thousands of manufacturers as they host students, teachers, parents, job seekers and other local community members at open houses, plant tours and presentations designed to showcase modern manufacturing technology and careers.

Manufacturing Day is co-produced by the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, International (FMA), the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), the Manufacturing Institute (MI), the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) and guest producer Industrial Strength Marketing (ISM). Media partners include the Edge Factor and the Science Channel; and the national movie partner is American Made Movie.
