Former Greyhounds to compete at Super Bowl LV

Former Fort Scott Community College football players Jason Pierre-Paul and Lavonte David of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are headed to Super Bowl LV. It will be a home game for the Tampa Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, FL. Paul and David were teammates at FSCC in 2008.

Tampa Bay held off the the Green Bay Packers Sunday afternoon in the NFC Championship Game in Green Bay. David had four tackles. Paul had five tackles and two sacks.

The No. 6 Greyhounds finished 8-2, 6-1 in the KJCCC and beat Blinn, Texas 30-14 in the Heart of Texas Bowl. Jeff Sims was the Greyhounds’ Head Coach.

Paul (OLB) has played in the NFL since 2010. He played two years for the University of South Florida and was drafted No. 15 overall by the New York Giants. Paul played for the Giants from 2010 to 2017. He joined the Bucs in 2018.  In 2020 he accumulated 9.5 sacks and two interceptions to go with 34 solo and 21 assisted tackles.

A 2012 Super Bowl XLVI champion, Paul is making his second trip to the Super Bowl with an NFC Championship victory over Green Bay Sunday.

David (ILB) was drafted 58th (2nd round) out of Nebraska by Tampa Bay in 2012. David has 82 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 33 forced fumbles and 1 interception in the 2020-21 season. David has spent his entire career in Tampa.

For his career, David has over 1,000 tackles, 24 sacks, 24 forced fumbles, 12 interceptions and one safety. This is the first year David has played in the NFL Playoffs. The Bucs had not been to the playoffs since 2007-08 and has only reached the Super Bowl once, in 2002-03. That year Tampa won Super Bowl XXXVII.

The Super Bowl is Sunday, Feb. 7.
