Welding Technology

Overview

A program that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to join or cut metal surfaces. Includes instruction in arc welding, resistance welding, brazing and soldering, cutting, high energy beam welding and cutting, solid state welding, ferrous and non-ferrous materials, oxidation-reduction reactions, welding metallurgy, welding processes and heat treating, structural design, safety, and applicable codes and standards. Students will learn GMAW, GTAW, SMAW, and FCAW processes.

The FSCC welding program provides hands-on training to help students earn their OSHA 10 and Structural Certification D1.1 from the American Welding Society. Students will train on American Welding Society (AWS) 1F, 2F, and 1G positions. Students can enroll in courses as early as their junior or senior year in high school, and earn industry recognized credentials at many levels. Through the program, students can earn AWS/Structural Credentials in welding. These credentials will be entered into a national registry that is portable and available to contractors.
