Criminal Justice

Overview

A program that generally prepares individuals to perform the duties of police and public security officers, including patrol and investigative activities, traffic control, crowd control and public relations, witness interviewing, evidence collection and management, basic crime prevention methods, weapon and equipment operation and maintenance, report preparation and other routine law enforcement responsibilities.

Fort Scott Community College offers several educational pathways in Criminal Justice, including a two-year Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree, a two-year Associate of Science (AS) degree with an emphasis in Criminal Justice, and a one-year Certificate program. These programs are designed to prepare students for entry-level employment in the criminal justice field or for transfer to a four-year institution for continued study. Students explore a broad range of topics such as criminal procedures, criminal law, investigations, interviewing techniques, and report writing. Coursework combines theoretical knowledge with practical applications to build a strong foundation for careers in law enforcement, corrections, and related fields.
