FSCC Choir and Orchestra Present Spring Concert

The Fort Scott Community College Choir and Orchestra will present their annual Spring Concert at 3:00 pm on Sunday, April 17. The event is open to the public and admission is free. The concert will take place at the Danny and Willa Ellis Family Fine Arts Center on the FSCC campus at 2108 South Horton Street.

Directed by Dr. Greg Turner, FSCC Division Chairperson of Communications and Fine Arts, the theme of the performance will be “My Favorite Things.” Dr. Turner has taught at the college for 30 years, and directed the orchestra for 29 years. Following the Spring 2016 semester, he will continue to share his talents with FSCC students who are attending English courses. “Because this will be my last concert as part of the music department, I wanted to choose music that has evoked good memories over the years,” said Dr. Turner. “These selections have connections with my career, from my freshman year of high school to the present.”

The concert selections include, “Finlandia,” by Jean Sibelius; “Fugue in G Minor,” by Johann Sebastian Bach and arranged by Lucien Cailliet; “Old Scottish Melody,” arranged by Charles Wiley; “The Sound of Music,” arranged by Robert Russell Bennett; and “The Way We Were,” arranged by Philip Fink.
