Blake Shepard Benefit Game

Fort Scott Community College student and baseball player Blake Shepard passed away Monday night. Shepard was a freshmen from Ponca City, OK.

Head baseball coach, John Hill writes, “After 8 days of struggle, his body gave out and he is now in a better place than any of us.”

Hill continues, “We had planned on a benefit game to assist his family with hotels, food, missed work income and other incurred expenses. After speaking with his parents, they have given us their blessing to continue to do so.”

FSCC Baseball will host benefit games versus Independence Community College and Neosho County Community College this Sunday, beginning at noon at the LaRoche Baseball Complex. Two games will be played, both seven innings in length. Fort Scott will play Neosho first, then we will have a short intermission to honor Blake. FSCC v. Independence will follow with an approximate start time of 2:30 p.m.

Admission is a free will donation. All proceeds will go the Shepard’s family to take care of expenses already incurred from the accident and to assist with funeral and other arrangements.

There will be silent auction items from the Chicago White Sox, the New York Yankees and from the athletic departments of Kansas & Kansas State Universities. Additional items from the Minnesota Twins and the Seattle Mariners are also expected. Proceeds will also go to the Shepard family.

A free drink, hamburger, hot dog, and desert item will be provided free of charge for all attendees regardless of donation amount.
