FSCC Meat Judging Team wins first at the National Western Stock Show.

Fort Scott, KS- The Fort Scott Community College Meat Judging Team was named overall champion at their first meat judging competition of the new year. The National Western Stock Show was held in Denver, Colorado on January 18.

 

In November, the FSCC Meat Judging Team took home the 2014 National Championship from theCargill High Plains Meat Judging Contest in Friona, Texas. The National Western Stock Show Championship was won by a new team consisting of Britton Francis, Callahan Grund, Kaylee Hill, Ben Walker and Ty Wood.

 

The Meat Judging Team judges for a calendar year before passing on competition duties to a new group. Cargill was the culmination of the previous team’s competitions. National Western Stock Show was the first competition of the new team.

 

Jenilee Martin, FSCC’s Meat Judging Team Coach, said of the new team, “We had a long couple of weeks leading up to the contest with team members having to sit out due to surgeries. Thankfully, we had a couple of FSCC’s Livestock Judgers fill in for them. They did a tremendous job. Our students really came together andI couldn’t be more proud of them.”

 

Overall, the FSCC Team was named first Overall, first in the Beef Grading Division and first in the Total Beef Division.

 

Martin continued, “This year the competition will be stiff, but this team is determined to continue their success.”

 

Kaylee Hill of Paola, Kansas was named first High Individual, first in Beef Grading, first in Beef Judging, first in Total Beef, first in Total Questions and third in Lamb Judging.

 

Ben Walker of Nevada, Missouri was named fifth High Individual, second in Beef Grading and second in Total Placings.

 

Ty Wood of Cherryvale, KS was named sixth High Individual, first in Pork Judging and fifth in Total Questions.

 

Callahan Grund of Wallace, Kansas was also named 15th High Individual.
