2019 Math Relays Recap
Fort Scott, KS.—Fort Scott Community College (FSCC) hosted the 10th Annual Math Relays on October 15th. Over 300 high school students participated in the event from 21 area high schools. FSCC’s Math Instructor, Kathy Malone was very pleased with the outcome of the event;
“We had a great day at our 10th FSCC Math Contest with 370 students attending from 21 area high schools. Students competed in up to four different areas of mathematics given a choice of ten tests where both accuracy and speed were factors. Calculators were only used in two out of the ten possible tests. Points were given for schools whenever students placed in the top five in each category for each grade level and those points were tallied up to determine the overall school winners. Individual medal winners were the top three in each category at each grade level”.
Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School out of Joplin, MO., took first place overall, followed by Girard High School in second, and Fort Scott High School in third. Out of each of the 10 tests, there was a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner from each grade level. Numerous students took multiple awards home. The schools included the following:
