State of Kansas Systemwide General Education Framework
Under the guidance of Kansas Board of Regents (KBOR), Fort Scott Community College (FSCC) developed the Systemwide General Education package to provide our students maximum flexibility and seamless transferability. The systemwide general education program at Fort Scott Community College consists of 35 credit hours organized in six discipline-based “buckets” and an institutionally designated bucket. Beginning in the fall of 2024, all incoming students seeking an Associate in Science (AS) or Associate in Arts (AA) Degree will be placed on the general education program pathway. The general education program requires students to satisfactorily complete courses in each specified area. Furthermore, completing an AA or AS degree ensures fulfilment of the state-mandated core curriculum and acceptance in transfer of a minimum of 35 credit hours toward the general education requirements of a bachelor’s degree at public institutions in Kansas.
