Michael McKinnis grew up in Fort Scott and graduated from Fort Scott High School in 1991. He then attended Fort Scott Community College, graduating summa cum laude in 1993. He went on to attend Pittsburg State University, earning his BBA and MBA in accounting.
At FSCC he was involved in band, choir, and forensics and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa honor society. He was band council director in 1992-93 and won awards as Outstanding Musician and Outstanding Soloist in 92-93 also.
At PSU Mike was a member of Delta Mu Delta, National Honor Society in Business Administration, and was a member of the PSU Newman Club.
He is currently an instructor and chair of the Business and Technology department at Allen County Community College in Iola, Kansas. He has taught at Allen County since 1997 and serves on many college committees and task forces. He has made several conference presentations and is published in the Review of Business Research. He was named to the Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers in 2000 and 2005.
He is a member of the FSCC Alumni and Friends Board. He is married to Susan McKinnis, Ph.D., who also teaches at Allen County Community College. Mike will speak at the 2:00 p.m. graduation ceremony on Friday May 16.
