Sachie Shimoji Hainline came to Fort Scott Community College as an international student and graduated with her associate’s degree in 1995. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Southwest Missouri State University in 1998. She graduated with honors, Cum Laude, from both FSCC and SMSU.
At FSCC, Sachie was an active member of the band and Phi Theta Kappa. In 2005, she helped organize the FSCC marching band ten-year reunion. While at SMSU, she was the first foreign student named to the Student Involvement Hall of Fame. She was also listed on Who’s Who Among American College and University Students in 1996-1997. She received several scholarships, including the Phi Theta Kappa/Junior College Honor Society Scholarship and the Springfield Hotel/Motel Association Scholarship. She was the first foreign student to receive the Minority Leadership Scholarship.
She is currently a Marine Animal Education Program Instructor for Walt Disney World in Florida. She works primarily with the dive team, feeding fish and demonstrating diving to guests, and as a safety diver for the guest diving program. In addition, she works as a freelance Japanese/English translator and interpreter.
She volunteers for the Central Florida Special Olympics, United Way Disney Volunteers and Good Will and Beta House Women’s Shelter. She is also a volunteer writer for “Study Abroad Magazine,” published in Japan.
Hainline became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2004. She currently lives in Orlando, Florida, with her husband R. Clay Hainline.
