FSCC Baseball Program Celebrates 51 Seasons of Sustained Success

July 6, 2026

The Fort Scott Community College baseball program continues to build on a long-standing tradition of excellence, marking its 51st season in 2026 with a history defined by consistency and success.

Since the program’s inception in 1975, Fort Scott has established itself as a perennial contender. The Greyhounds have recorded 30 or more wins in 24 seasons, including an impressive streak of 16 consecutive seasons reaching that milestone, beginning in 2010-11.

Head coach John Hill, now in his 18th season leading the program, credits that sustained success to a strong foundation of values and people.

“It’s the result of living out our program values of consistency, persistence and time, and that’s been preached since the very beginning,” Hill said. “All of the assistant coaches over the 18 years I’ve been here have been totally selfless and dedicated to serving our student-athletes with a single-minded focus on individual and program success. Many of them have been former players who returned to serve, give back and help guide the next group.”

Hill said the program’s legacy extends far beyond wins and losses, pointing to the impact former players have made after leaving Fort Scott.

“We are grateful to continue this streak, but the streak I want to continue is the greatness of our alumni,” he said. “They are leaders, husbands, fathers, coaches, lawyers and even professional baseball players. We have servicemen, including a Navy SEAL, and individuals serving in sheriff’s departments. That’s what I’m most proud of. The wins are great, but I’m most proud of what our alumni are doing after they leave here. They take the values of the program with them and apply them to life.”

Hill also emphasized the importance of community support in the program’s continued success.

“The longer I coach here, the more entrenched my family, our program and I become in this community,” he said. “I love and deeply appreciate the support that we’ve received.”

As the Greyhounds continue their 51st season, the program remains focused on maintaining its winning tradition while developing student-athletes who represent Fort Scott Community College with pride both on and off the field.
