FSCC to hold Children’s Theatre production of The Little Mermaid, Jr.

Fort Scott, KS- As part of the 2015 Fort Scott Community College Summer Theatre Camp, the FSCC Theatre Department is presenting a revised version of the 2007 Broadway musical “The Little Mermaid.”

Performances will be in the Danny and Willa Ellis Family Fine Arts Center on Sunday, June 28th at 2:00pm and at 7 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, June 29 and 30.  Tickets are $5 at the door.
The musical is about a mermaid princess named Ariel who dreams of the world above the sea and gives up her voice to find love.  Students of all ages will perform in song, dance and dramatic sequences.

The Broadway musical is based on the 1987 Disney film based on the classic story by Hans Christian Andersen.  The musical was nominated for Best Original Score at the 2008 Tony Awards.

The musical’s book is by Doug Wright, music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman (written for the film), with additional lyrics by Glenn Slater. The musical’s underwater setting and story about aquatic characters requires unusual technical designs and strategies to create gliding movements for the actors.
