Fort Scott Community College Celebrates Black History Month

Fort Scott, Kan.—Fort Scott Community College will recognize Black History Month with a presentation from Reverend George Proctor on Tuesday, February 23. Rev. Proctor, who serves as pastor at United Missionary Baptist Church, will speak to students and community members about the origins of Black History Month and African-Americans’ integral role in American history. The presentation, free and open to the public, will begin at 3:00 pm in the Danny and Willa Ellis Family Fine Arts Center meeting rooms in Fort Scott, Kan.

After the presentation, attendees are encouraged to visit Gordon Parks Museum/Center for Culture and Diversity, also located in the Ellis Center. Parks was an internationally known African-American photographer, filmmaker, writer, and musician who chronicled the Civil Rights movement for two decades.
